Auto trans fluid fill

Auto trans fluid fill I just removed the pan and drained the transmission fluid, changed the filter and reinstalled filter and pan. 2002 A4 4L60E, 122,000 miles. Still was pretty pink fluid and minor black smudge on the magnet. Never any problems with it. The manual said 5 quarts ATF with filter change, so that is what I put back in.
Sitting level in my garage, engine hot, running in park, the dip stick reads over the hot mark by about 3/4 inches. How big a problem is this? I know that I should have added the last amount in small stages but I thought that the book capacity should be close. Big problem? Should I loosen some bolts and let some fluid out again? Only driven 22 miles so far, will have about 50 on it before I put it down this weekend for other work, so it wouldn't be a big deal to readjust by letting some out and carefully refilling. Do I really need to? Thanks for your advice.

Yeah, they take about 4-5 QTs. your probably half qt over. It doesn't hurt the unit but it is better to keep the fluid between the two marks. After the car is at Operating temp it should be on the higher mark. just suck some out.

Thanks. I really don't want to loosen the pan to drain a little out because that may need a new pan gasket after being compressed and all. I have a Miti-Vac hand held vacuum pump for bleeding brake lines, maybe I will get a longer section of tubing that will reach down through the dip stick spout and pull some out. I was just wondering if this is an 'oh my god, shut the car down thing' or something not so serious.
