Ac question (2002 Camaro SS one owner with no prior AC work) Hi, tried AC this spring but no cold air. Found ac clutch not engaging. Bought a refil which showed very low freon via it's gauge. Refilled to proper level and clutch engaged only briefly. Belts, clutch spins freely, rad coolant, fuses, dash controls in working order. Used dye light to check for leak but could not see one. Any advice is appreciated!
If your AC Clutch is not engaging, I'd first start with checking if the connector is good. It has one wire going to it and is pretty easy to pull out/break if you're doing work in the area. (I think it's orange) on the passenger side of the compressor. This is what creates the magnetic force to engage the clutch. Also at the same time, I'd check the clearance of the AC clutch clearance. If it was to close it would make physical contact. If it was to far, the clutch would not engage.
I used to not use my AC much and one year when I decided to use it, same thing, no cold air. Bought some refrigerant to refill it but still no luck. Turned out the seals/o rings has dried out and my compressor had gone bad.
