Default CO emissions, car is off

How can a car that is not running, off for over an hour, be emitting CO from the tail pipe.

Does carbon build up emit co? Tried three different detectors. From a small distance, about a foot. Detectors read zero. Garage reads zero. You have to get the detector pretty much right in to the tail pipe or deep inside it.

This a peak level check following having stuffed the detector in to the exhaust tip, not the level in the house/garage - that would be alarming, no pun intended. The actual level measured in the garage and house is 0.

The only conclusion I can draw is that the CO and other exhaust gases are lingering from when the car was running, and haven't been expelled. I might try and vacuum it out with the shop vac, vented outside of course, and see if that clears it out.

The car will be tuned in a few weeks, and it's not being driven currently.

There is nothing the pull the CO out of the tail pipe so yes it's going to be slowly released over a long period of time.
And yes it seems silly to me also MY 2K Z lol

If the ambient reading in the garage and adjacent enclosed living spaces is zero and stays zero, and the only registered reading is the residual amount literally inside of the tail pipe, I see no reason for concern. There is no new source of combustion once the engine is off, so dissipation of any tail pipe residual won't result in any dangerous ambient accumulations.

FWIW, more CO is going to be expelled into the garage as you pull the car in with a running engine than any residual left after shutdown, you'd have to shut it down outside and push the car into the garage to avoid this. One of mine has no cats with plenty of extra cam overlap and a gasoline toilet bowl on top of the intake, and I usually keep the car running for a couple of minutes to get it adjusted properly in its garage spot, but that's still not enough to set off the CO detector just inside the door leading to the house (attached garage).
