Chasing a strange whistle (video)
I'm including a video but it's faint in the video. It's fairly noticeable in the car though. It sounds kinda like one of those cheap plastic whistles being blown kinda softly. (If that makes sense)
I've only put about 500 miles on the car since I got it but it didn't make this noise previously. It started somewhere around the time I deleted the cats and make my first nitrous hit.
The car runs fine. I don't see or feel anything out of the ordinary in how it drives. I've replaced the belt, tensioner, ps pump, alternator, idlers, and changed the pcv valve to an orfice style and there's been no change.
I haven't ruled out a possible exhaust leak but I don't see or feel one. The noise sounds most prevalent around the left bank/serpentine drive area. It sounds like it could be coming from the water pump? I also thought I might have a weak lifter or 2 because it seems to go away after I get into pretty hard.
Thoughts?
I tried to push down the lifters and none of them moved so I'm assuming they had already bled off. The car had been sitting for a few days so it's entirely possible. I'm still suspect of a weak lifter.
Still haven't ruled out the water pump or an exhaust leak. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to chime in.
