Default Engine oil cooler block off

I bought a motor and the trans lines and oil cooler lines were cut at the rubber. Instantly, I figured I will cut off the crimp on the trans lines and hook up new rubber there. For some reason when I looked at the oil cooler, I decided to look at the price for a new set up and decided nope, it seems the block off plate was the most common go to, so ordered one while I was piddling in the garage.

Now that I am actually thinking about it, I can do the exact same thing with the high pressure rubber line and EFI bands, now Im second guessing myself. On one hand, oil is fairly thick and the very short time it's in the cooler (air), not much will be gained. On the other, anything helps. On the 3rd hand, the block offs are apparently pretty common go to on this forum from my previous searches, and is the price of a cooler and lines worth the minute affect to my oil?

Should I cancel the block off plate idea? Most posts Ive seen were a couple years old.

IMHO if GM engineers felt a oil cooler was needed GM would not spend $.02 more than they felt the motor needed...but they did go with a oil cooler provision

New lines are not much $ especially at Rockauto.

*****, part of my agrees with you, but the other part of me questions the idea of why they have oil coolers on some cars and then don't on others, despite being the same engine. Either way, my radiator isn't equipped to handle an oil cooler for the engine, and an air cooler just seems like a waste of money, and at the same time, it isn't the way the oil cooler was designed to work for cold starts and hot starts.

Looks like I will be adding the block off tomorrow and then I'll use my OBD scanner to monitor real life oil temps.

LilJay, yeah. I was too tired to think correctly, lol.
