Default Heater Core

How detailed is the heater core on these F-bodies? I just got home from work and over the 45 mile drive home, I smelled coolant and COULD NOT defrost my windows no matter what I did.

Sigh ....

I just saw a video on youtube and it looks very easy.... much easier than my `79 Firebird's.

Very helpful. It looks like the perfect time for some plugs while I'm at it. I was also wanting to replace the valve cover gasket so it seems to be the perfect storm as it appears to be helpful to have the coil packs out to get to the hose clamps. I'm sure glad that I left off that inside coil pack bracket bolt the last time I pulled them!

You also have to pull the intake there is a hidden bolt behind it 😫 lol

Well I got the heater core in. It's nice to have heat. As you can see there's a blood sacrifice in doing that job. I guess that's why it's got 362k on the clock (the willingness to rip flesh on some repairs).

I know someone who says that the easiest way on a 3rd gen is to remove the top dash pad and remove and replace it from the top. On a 4th gen, I'm sure you can only get it from the bottom.

It's actually a very easy job for the most part- on the 4th gen. Dealing with the hose clamps was by far the worst of it. I even had the proper hose clamp pliers and the cable type as well. But to have a sliding door under the dash (and then there was the heater core!) was heavenly compared to other heater core jobs I've done. I was praising GM for that design.
