Default 4th Gen Charging Woes

Long story short, the stock alternator failed (or so I thought) a couple weeks back.

I replaced the alternator with a BBB Ind Platinum Reman 145A Truck Unit from the local parts store, everything was fine for a week or so, but then started randomly again dropping voltage.

Checked the exicter wire for power key on, passed, checked the connector itself and bent the pin slightly for better connectivity, passed.

Same result, seems to be totally random when it will want to work and when it won't.

Gut tells me crappy reman but wanted someone to chime in.

I debated running a jumper or a new exciter wire, but had read somewhere that a 50W 3ohm resistor was necessary to prevent runaway high voltage. According to my wiring diagram, the alternator is fed directly from the PCM and doesn't go through the gauge first.

Are you testing voltage at the battery while the car is running? The body control module likes to zap electricity from the dash and readings in the interior will read a volt lower than at the battery

Is the check gauges light coming on?

As mentioned in other threads ive only had luck using gm oem alternators used off of eBay for whatever reason. My truck can run autoparts store alternators no problem but the camaro has to use oem. Ive even swapped the autparts store alternators onto my truck when they don't work in the camaro and they always work
