I've been meaning to thank you for EVERYTHING you do here RPM WS6!
Right now I'm DEEP up in adding a Trufiber Ram-Air hood and hopefully a sail panel from a donor 1995 Camaro.
Is there a specific suite of software you're using that you can recommend?
I think it's HP Tuner (if I recall) is pay as you go, and pretty expensive!

I read this:

Where can I get started with LS1 Edit and what does it cost?
I don't need to do a true "tune" at this point, just some minor tweaking.
A tweak to run best on 87 octane and best fuel economy would be nice, right now! If that's possible.

Thank you, and glad I could be of help!
I'm still in the dark ages with LS1Edit on my ancient laptop, most folks use HP Tuners these days.
The LS1 was designed to run best on a minimum octane of 91, but there is a low octane spark advance table already present in the factory tune for instances when low octane fuel is used (as detected by knock sensors). Based on engine/cylinder head design and compression ratio, I don't think you'll really gain any MPG by using lower octane even if you were to do comprehensive timing table adjustment for 87 octane. Just making sure that the engine and vehicle is in a good state of maintenance (everything from a clean air filter and MAF to proper tire inflation and economical driving habits) will probably net you better results than chasing after a low octane tune that also enhances MPG.

I had no idea there were tables in the factory tune chosen by the knock sensor - WOW!
I installed TPMS sensors, so that will help to ensure proper tire inflation a LOT!
Does running 87 hurt the car? I'm a bit cheap! LOL

I had clogged cats on my 97. I did not replace the O2s but deleting the cats solved pinging in 6th gear I was having.

Hi!
Interesting you should ask now.
My shop had the car stored, waiting to inspect my Subaru in April.
They just told me they did resolve the O2 code with a new sensor.
Now they're getting a code for the evap system, unfortunately.
They said there's a part above the gas tank for the evap system that might need to be replaced.
He says that part is kind of hard to get to.
