If that is the one-way kind without the switch to reverse it, then I was thinking to use an open-end wrench to loosen as far as can go (the stuck wrench will bind against the spring) and see if that gives enough room to work off the stuck wrench or at a minimum reduce the amount of prying needed. Either way, you got someone local to get it off.

Try a Roberts drive bit, that might back those screws out enough to grab them with a pair of Vise Grips.
