Default Look what the idiot did

Got my racheting box end stuck in between the springs as I was compressing them to install new shocks. I'm thinking it has to be cut off now. Any ideas?

Looks like you need another pair of hands and a pry bar to get enough separations to get the wrench off.

I'm going to try and take it to a couple shops around town and see if they can do that for me otherwise I'm thinking a powerful dremel attachment.

Looks like you can loosen it, pull pin, and remove the clamp. Am I missing something? With the clamp off, the wrench will come right off.

Spring is fully compressed. Can't just pull the pin and remove the clamp.

put another clamp on the other side, and tighten it enough so you can pull the pin, or pry yourself enough room to get your wrench back

There is already a clamp on the other side that is fully compressed. That's how you are supposed to compress springs.

Might be possible but I don't have the hands and vice to do it, that's why I'm taking it to a shop to get help.

you should probably have the shop install your springs as well

Decompress the spring. That's why I said "loosen it".

You decompress the spring with the clamp that the wrench is stuck on and can only turn one way because it is racheting style in the box end. If it's was just as easy as loosen it I wouldn't have bothered making the post.

Easy pal, I'm more than capable of doing the job, just had a brain fart when trying to put the new shock back in.

put spring on ground, insert pry bar in between the compressor and the wrench, pull or push on prybar depending on how you have it in there, with a good pull the wrench will come out

Local old man with a machine shop put the spring in a big vice and got an even bigger pry bar. Wrench is off and I learned my lesson to not use the box end.

I had similar problems and then also bent one of those things on a truck spring. I ended up getting an inexpensive hydraulic compressor from Northern Tool and life has been a breeze ever since.

I agree just grab a crescent wrench or a box wrench and loosen it.

First thing that came to mind was using my porta power wedge to open up the spring. I've pushed out a lot of crushed body panels with these things... where you can fit them. Also looks like you may could have tapped the tool around with a hammer to sorta of unscrew it to the wider opening of the coil then pull it out?

Use an open end wrench on the spring to pry it up. A prybar might kick out on you, a open end wrench would grab it better. use something flat under the wrench as a shim to pry it up further.
