Default Help gauges not working right

2000 trans am ws6. First my security light tc off and abs lights came on. After checking connections and having battery disconnected over night I hooked it back up and now nothing on my dash works other than lights and volt meter. Service engine light is also on now. Even steering wheel functions don’t work. Oil pressure gauge only drops to 75 lbs when ignition is off and buried needle when running. Car runs and drives fine but no Speedo, tach ,temp, cruise, lights that are on are security abs traction control and service engine. Checked every fuse and all are good .where do I go from here?

With that much craziness going on I would suspect the issue to be something that is common to all the symptoms. A bad or intermittent ground can cause a wide variety of crazy stuff to happen. Check all of the grounds you can find, disassemble and clean any corrosion you find. Reattach them and see if that helps.

Nope... the BCM has nothing to do with the gauges. It does control the security light but that would seem to be the least of the problems in this case.

Default Worse now

Well now it went from running but no gauges to cranking and no start to not even cranking just sitting there. Battery is good. I’m lost. My cheap scanner says can not connect to ecu. I cleaned all grounds I could get to other than the one on back of block. Everything else works. Lights windows convertible top etc. even had vats resistor done so the security light does go out.

Gremlins like this (that get worse over time) have come up for:
- Animals chewing on wires
- Melted wires (touching an exhaust header, etc.)
- PCM water intrusion (unlikely unless the PCM has been disconnected without replacing the seal afterwards)

My God... That looks like a horror show.

First things first - I'd shoot whatever is doing that. (They will keep coming back for a snack on the insulation.)

Usually, the wires in the bundle are differentiated by white stripes or other markings. If you are lucky, you might also be able to match up lettering/printing of wire information on the side of the wire.

In conduits where the same color wire is strung, those wires are usually different gauges. However; in this location for the ECU, you may have some identical wires and may have to undo the conduits/bundles to see which sensors and pins the wires go to.
