Default P0113

So.. I've done a search and I don't understand what I should do to investigate this issue. I can check some stuff but I'm not an expert by any means and you may need to dumb it down a bit for me please.

I've been having a very rough idle and it's been getting worse over the last couple months. In addition, I have jerky acceleration all the way through the power band, but it's intermittent. The rough idle seems to stay consistent. Gas mileage isn't great and I'm smelling fuel at times. Car is pretty much stock, other than headers and SLP intake. Have been driving it for 10 years without issue until now. Car has 34k miles

I'm not throwing any codes yet but I used my scanner and I have a pending code P0113 - Intake air temperature (IAT) high output.

I watched some YouTube videos and did some searching on here to troubleshoot.

With the ignition on, I seen a reading of -38F, I also did another reading about 30 mins later and it was 78F, which made sense and might explain why the rough acceleration issues seems intermittent when driving? Maybe I'm wrong?

I used my volt meter and checked the wiring harness connections and I'm getting 4.98v to the sensor.

I then checked the sensor itself and I'm getting 2.45 omh resistance. I used a hair dryer to heat it up and the resistance dropped. However on one occurrence, I did see it go up briefly..then it went back down. Based on my research this means the sensor is good since the resistance dropped?

I visually checked the wiring and it looks good as far as I can see but again I'm not an expert.. is there anything else I can do? Do I need a new sensor or is there something else happening here? I seen some posts said check the grounds and all that? Is there is specific one I should be looking for?

Any guidance is appreciated, it's been consuming my whole day lol.

Thanks

To test the sensor, you will need this type of chart and know the temperature the sensor is measuring - so put it in a refrigerator, outside, inside, etc. to change the temperatures. https://pe-ltd.com/assets/air_temp.pdf

If the sensor responds appropriately, you may have a wiring problem or short in the harness.

Thanks for your reply.

I continued to monitor the IAT sensor and it seems to be operating correctly now, with correct temperature readings as well and the pending code has disappeared. However, I continue to have idle issues with the car, only when it's at operating temperature and around lower RPMs. When I'm WOT it's a touch slower to respond but it seems to run through the powerband without issue. At times at 50% throttle I find that it "chuggs" for a second or two then it goes away.. I also don't have any codes..

What can I check now? Plugs/wires were done a couple years ago but I've only put on like 2k miles since I changed them..I cleaned the maf and put in a new paper air filter and still have the issues.

I do have a new fuel filter that I want to install.. it's been sometime since that has been done.

Anything else I could check in the driveway?

Thanks

When I was getting that code i just bought a new one, I think around $30 or so. My car is a 1998 Z28, IAT was pretty old. My time to check and research is worth more that that. Oh buy the way after i replaced it I had no more codes.
