Default 2002 WS6 Dead

daily driver, went out to start it and it was dead. Newish battery, windows and remote work. No click. Is it the VATS? Where do I start?

If you car has an AT, double check that the neutral/park safety switch is working (try starting in both Park and Neutral). If you have a MT, make sure the clutch pedal safety switch is working.

What was the reason you needed a new battery? Are you sure its getting charged OK by the alternator? Sometimes a weak / discharged battery will keep the lights and windows working, but not enough to kick over the starter.

Since you mentioned VATS, check to see if the resistor in your key is damaged / dirty. Maybe squirt some WD-40 in the ignition lock to be sure its clean and making contact.

Does the security light stay on? If it goes off after a few seconds, it's probably not the VATS.

I bet its the VATS, I had the same issue until I bypassed it.

I would put a multimeter on it first to see what the battery voltage is before trying to jump start it.

This is very true. Best to diagnose logically rather than jump to conclusions because someone else had a problem that turned out to be VATS related.

You can add that if the SECURITY light stays on solidly then VATS can see a key pellet but it's not the right value. That is often due to grime on the key pellet or on the contacts inside the ignition cylinder. Best to use spray electronics cleaner rather than WD-40. If the light flashes then VATS doesn't see a key pellet at all. If the key is undamaged then that usually indicates a broken wire in the system, often times the small wires attached to the ignition cylinder.
