Map light is draining battery in my 1998 Camaro Z28
Well I found out what is draining the battery in my 1998 Camaro Z28 and it is the rear view mirror map light. The passenger side map light stays on and will not turn off using the switch so it stays on constantly. I am wondering if the two wires which go to the rear view mirror can be disconnected until I find out how to fix the problem to stop it from draining my battery all the time?

Easy solution: remove the light bulb.

Yes, the wiring harness can be unplugged from the mirror. But the suggestion above might be a better idea, so that the driver's side map light will still be functional.

I expect something else is afoot. If you want to fix the issue, I'd trace the source of the problem. The first thing I would check are the door latches and the wiring there. Perhaps your car "thinks" the doors are open and all your courtesy lights are on as a result? If your door ajar chime works on the driver's side when the key is in, I would look at the passenger side, etc.
I assume you have the roof dome light completely switched off? If it is on the auto setting, does it also stay on when the car is shut?
