Default Valve ticking

I have a valve tick that started yesterday. When I got home from work I pulled the valve cover and the rocker on the drivers side closest to the firewall is really loose. I tightened it as far as I can and it’s still loose. I pulled the rocker off and checked the push rod and it’s good too. I put everything back together and it’s still loose. I cranked the engine and all the rockers seem to be moving normally. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

its a junkyard motor out of a 2000 so I don’t know how many miles it has on it. It’s a 5.3

That’s what I’m thinking. The only thing that’s confusing me is when I turn the motor over all the rockers still move like normal.

I’m hoping to get an answer before I start taking off the head.

so - is this the GMC? does it have the AFM? I think it's a collapsed lifter, partially collapsed. gummed up? maybe run a cleaner thru it?

Yeah it’s a 2001 Gmc Sierra. I don’t think it has AMF.
It’s not gummed up. I ran cleaner through it about 2 months ago.

rislone works really well at unsticking lifters. Check the length of the push rod. swap rockers around etc. It obviously shouldn't' be loose but only a few things could cause that.

I did switch rockers and pushrod around and same issue. I’m in the process of pulling the head right now. All the pushrods are the same length.

Hopefully the piece isn’t in stuck in the motor somewhere. But it’s my work truck and I need it back on the road so pray for me lol.
