Power Steering Pump brand?
I always look for AC Delco first, but I can’t always find the part. Or, it tells me that it doesn’t fit my car, despite the fact that the photo is identical.
So, what do you guys recommend for a PS pump without breaking the bank? It’s a daily driver with 170k. Thanks in advance
TurnOne offers performance P/S pumps with different pressure profiles than the stock unit. If this doesn't appeal to you, you can ask them to do a stock rebuild. (This is what I did for mine.)
TurnOne will also offer a metal pulley with slots so you won't have to worry about pulling the pulley any more. You can simply bolt/unbolt the pump with the pulley on. I have taken advantage of this many times over the years when I needed to get the pump out of the way for other repairs. Its easy with no mess. When you have TurnOne rebuild your pump, they permanently attach and key the pulley into the shaft, which you can't do if you buy the pulley separate.
If coolant is disappearing, it could be mixing with the P/S fluid or you could have another problem. (I have had issues with my cooler and also a bad water pump that injected air into the coolant system that caused coolant to "disappear.") I would start by fixing your P/S system and then fully change your P/S fluid and coolant. We have threads on how to flush your P/S fluid with the engine off. Its really easy and clean. For coolant, its important to fully drain the block as 1/2 of your coolant sits inside the block. (Draining the radiator isn't enough to get P/S fluid or other gunk out!) https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...k-coolant.html
Once this is done, you can watch your coolant system to see if its stable or if you have something else (in addition) going on.
you can rebuild yourself if so inclined....only source of parts for rebuilding that I know of is PSC Motorsports in Azle TX
Stock one was noisy/leaky.
After removing it from the car and cleaning/degreasing it, took a little over an hour to rebuild it.
