I’m replacing my alternator cause the pulley broke on it, I got it out and disconnected the plug on it , now I see there are 2 plugs in that area, both have a single wire going to them, one has more pins on the male side than the other , and only one has the weather protector plastic piece , the other is just the plug.
My mistake was I didn’t look which one was plugged in before unplugging it, I was just reaching up and disconnected it.
can anyone tell me which one it should be ?
thank you

Pics would help but they should only go in the one way.
An '02 Z28 should have an alternator with the 4 pin voltage regulator connector.
I am not sure where your confusion lies, as nothing else in the vehicle's wiring harness will fit the 4 pin alternator.
If the Alternator is already installed it's whatever port is literally straight down under the Temp Sensor in the Drivers Head. Never seen one with two spots to plug into so post a pic of what you mean.
I even have a pic of mine before the Power Steering Pump was bolted up. LS Fbody Accessories on the 6.0l in my MCSS.
Let me rephrase this. The alternator only has one plug, but there are two plugs for me to choose from to plug into it.
If the plug fits both then they probs do the same thing just one is at a different angle if you were to clock the alternator at a different angle. But post a pic
There was only one connector for the exciter wire from the factory. If there are currently two, then someone must've added a new connector (perhaps to replace a previously damaged exciter wire - this is a common breakage when swapping alternators) and just left the old one still attached to the harness.
I can't imagine what else it could be. The only other connectors coming off the harness in the area of the alternator are for the temp sensor (directly above cylinder #1) and, if I remember correctly, the junction point for the front left O2 sensor. Neither of these should have been left unplugged in the first place.
Yea that's definitely odd because the O2 Sensor is a square black plug. If it was me I'd pull that wiring up top, get it apart and make sure the main red wire is good on Pin B, and get rid of the extra stuff.
With that particular one I install 2 wires about 16" or so on Pin A & C, and tape it all up in the harness to re-enforce that part because the factory wire there is thin and breaks easily.
