Default Door Hinge Roller Replacement

I have a 2000 Firebird WS6 Trans Am and I replace the door roller without having to remove the old pin. The pin itself was not worn at all just the roller had flat spots that caused loud popping noises when opening and closing the door. Don't know if the method I used will be helpful to anyone else but you can read on and see if it is something you might want to try.

I purchased a new roller and pin off of Amazon which was made in China. Seems functional enough. We will see long term if that holds true.
The only thing that holds the old roller on the old pin is the flange part of the old plastic bushing. I removed the spring to take pressure off the pawl so I could the take the roller off. I removed the flange part of the old bushing with a razor blade and used a screwdriver to slide the old roller over the pin. Then I removed the rest of the old bushing from the pin with a razor blade. I cleaned everything up in preparation to install the new roller.
I drove the new bushing from the new roller using the new pin since it fit the bore of the roller. I removed the flange from the new bushing which shortens the bushing and leaves it looking like a cylinder. The new bushing usually has 4 grooves in it and I used a razor to split the bushing down one of those grooves. This will allow it to spread open enough to go over the old pin. Make sure that the tapered end of the bushing is facing up at you when you install it over the old pin and it will make installing the new roller easier. The bore of the new roller is large enough to go over the old pin and slide onto the shortened bushing. Tap the roller into place. Since you shortened the new bushing when you removed its flange, there will be room to install a size M8 E-clip between the top of the old pin and the new roller. The E-clip will secure the roller in place like the flange on the original bushing did. I greased everything as I was installing it. Reinstall the spring. Now you can open and close the door and enjoy how quiet it is.

Or you can ignore it and in a couple years the original roller will split in two and quit making noise. Problem solved.
