Default Coolant leak?

Two questions:
1) I just finished installing headers and OVC wires on my TransAm and I noticed my low coolant light come on while I was driving today. I pop the hood once I get to my house and notice a small amount of liquid near the opti and some on the front sway bar. Any ideas what this might be? Could damage to the opti cause the water pump to leak? The only thing I did in that area of the car was plug the new wires into the opti.

2) The check engine light came on while I was driving to a muffler shop to have the Y-pipe welded in, which I expected because I did not have the O2 sensors plugged in (the bungs are in the Y-pipe). The muffler shop cleared the codes but the check engine light came back on the following day. Any one else have this happen? Can the O2 sensors go bad by sitting in my garage for a few weeks while I finished up the install?

I would appreciate any advice you may have.

Well I had the coolant thing happen to me.........it was the water pump going out, it was dripping coolant through the weep hole on the bottom.

Get that fixed soon or the opti could be the next to go

Hmm... a week ago my car was running bad. Turned out to be the right side o2 and spark plugs. But, since I messed with the o2 sensor, I've had the SES light turn up, even though after the replacement the engine was throwing no codes. I have yet to find the cause of this problem. I'm getting paranoid, though. That's a lot of bright orange light in my dash. And to answer one of your questions, no. O2 sensors cannot go bad just by sitting in your garage for a few weeks. They could probably last forever if you do nothing with them.

It could be your water pump going south. If there is coolant on your sway bar it may be coming from the weep hole located at the bottom of the pump. I would check that. On these engines, the low coolant sensor has been known to be unreliable. If you fix the leak, refill the system, bleed the system and you still have this problem, it could be caused by a bad sensor or a dirty sensor.

agreed with metal, the weep hole will indicate a bad water pump.. the hole is directly above the opti..

I'm going with an electric water pump. I want to install a 160 degree thermostat at the same time. I plan on getting a tune from PCMFORLESS in the next month or two. Can I safely drive the car with the new thermostat without the tune?

yes, waterpump for sure. My did the same thing. Don't wait like the others have said, replace it before it costs you an optispark.
