Post Engine Knock or Lifter Noise

I recieved this from the dealer regarding my cold start knock problem on my car since it was new. I believe this has nothing to do with it but I'm going to post this for others who might have this problem. I'm an ASE Master auto tech for the last 28 years. It's so hard to get them to fix my darn knock. I know what it is. (piston to cyl wall clearence.) But they don't want to do it. Bad CarDealers should go to Iraq and be a meatshields for our Brave men/women. Here ya go....

Condition

Some customers may comment on an engine tick noise. The distinguishing characteristic of this condition is that it likely will have been present since new, and is typically noticed within the first 161-322 km (100-200 mi). The noise may often be diagnosed as a collapsed lifter. Additionally, the noise may be present at cold start and appear to diminish and then return as the engine warms up to operating temperature. This noise is differant from other noises that may begin to occur at 3210-4828 km (2000-3000 mi).

Cause

The O-ring seal between the oil pump screen and the oil pump may be cut, causing aeration of the oil.

Correction

Inspect the O-ring seal and replace as necessary. Use the applicable part number listed below. Refer to the Engine Mechanical sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual.

I have a 2001 Ws6 i bought recently and have noticed since the purchase the cold start piston knock. I took it to a pontiac dealership and had them look at it. They said it was common in the ls1 and no repairs were done. Is this right or should they repair or replace pistons? What did you do, and the results?

DO a search - there are LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of posts about both the o-ring and the piston slap....if you read a few you'll be an expert on both issues.

I have the cold start knocking also - it goes away when it's warm and then I just have valve train ticking...

iF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, THEY HAVE TO FIX IT, OTHERWISE MENTION LAWYER AND LAWSUIT AND THEY WILL BE QUICK TO DO IT.
However it is not a bad thing and doesn't affect your motor (actually some fixed ones have lost power)
Get a choppy cam, you won't notice it anymore.
