Mine is doing the same stuff. I guess everybody has bad alternators. My other LS1's didn't do it, so I guess I was lucky with them. How bad is it to change in the car? I have the alt. off of the LS1 in my '69, so I could just swap it with that one for now. It doesn't look too fun from what I could tell.

did all you guys ever think you might need a capacitor for your stereos like a half farad cap. or 1 farad capacitor that may solve ur dimming problem if you have extra amps with a beefed up stereo system. just my 2.5 cents good luck..

I have never personally had this problem but I know what the answer is. You car is currently unable to put out enough power to power your sound system. That is why perhaps when your subs hit, your heaxdclights will pulse as well as the lights on your receivers. The first easy step would be to put a $250 or so battery capacitator on your subwoofer amps. If that doesn't take care of the problem, put a 200 amp alternator with a regulator (made for your car) on there. It will cost you about $400.

If yours is stock and its flickering when the engine is idling then you have a problem with your altenator or the wiring going to it.

mine pulse as well! It drives me and, i'm sure, the people in front of me insane. I went to the ZONE last night and got the alt and battery tested. Passed with flying colors
I dont know what the hell it is. My guages, everything does the pulse mod. I've checked every ground in the car. I thought it was just a normal thing for these cars, esp M6 car.

Most likely the alternator.
I had a completely stock WS6 and the lights pulsated. I put a system in it, sub, amp, new headunit, etc, and the lights pulsated in the same manner, just slightly worse (barely noticable difference).
New alternator and I was all set.
A funny thing about the new alternator, it sounds slightly like a supercharger. When I was at the shop helping with the alt, everyone was laughing as we started it outside and again when I left. Its like the pully on the alt. is ribbed on the inside of the pulley, matched with the ribs on the actual alt. body, the air current it produces makes a slight whistle that matches the RPM's of the car.
It has been about a week since I had the alternator work done, and its still making the sound.
Ahh, good times

Hmm, I haven't noticed my lights dimming on my stock '99 V6 camaro, but my battery guage on the dash does drop when I put the car in reverse and turn on rear defrost. It sounds like I might need a higher output alternator as well.
What's a tensioner?

It's the spring-loaded pulley that keeps your serpentine belt tight.
For the rest of you guys, instead of buying a new alt you could check with local alternator shops and see if they can repair yours. Granted I have never tried with a stock alt, but when I was having problems with the voltage in my HO alt I took it in and the guy tore it apart and replaced just the regulator, it was like $40 or something, lots cheaper than a new one.
