Cooling Problem
Thanks
Justin
true it could be coz of the thermostat or the water pump.... my problem was that my reg. number was bit under the front face of my LT1....then I relized that it's blocking at least 1/8 the area where the air hits the airdam...
make sure u dont have anything blocking...or anything like a nylon bag on ur engine below stuck...
oh yeah make sure ur fans works properly... the rotars must be dead or it could be working on low speed.
Good luck
Take a look under the nose of the car and see if the black air dam is still under there in one piece. You might have busted it off on a curb. Even cracking it can cause overheating because it can bend out of position at highway speeds.
If that's OK, look behind the nose to see if anything is blocking the front of the radiator. It's easy to pick something up on the road. I had part of a tire wedged up in there once! A pop can another time!
Next check the coolant level in the overflow tank.
Next is the radiator cap. If the overflow tank has fluid in it, but the radiator is dry, it's a bad cap.
Next is the thermostat. Change it if it's more than 3 years old just to be sure. It's cheap insurance and easy to do.
Do the fans work? If you're cool at low speed (like you said) they're probably OK. Just look--but don't touch!
On the LT1 reverse cooling setup, it could also be a blockage or air bubble in the heads or steam lines coming from the back of the heads. (If you haven't done any work on the coolant system recently, though, they're probably OK.)
After that, it could be a water pump or the radiator itself. You need equipment to check that.
