Default My Car Sucks!!!!!!

Ok well not really, but I am a little pissed. I had some extra money lying around and planned on some longtubes with a tune. Well a few nights ago when driving to my girlfriends house I could smell antifreeze really bad. I really didn't know what it was so when I got there I popped the hood and found a little antifreeze spraying on the front of my intake elbow. OK, no big deal, I figured that when I checked it earlier that day it was just some leftover spill over. Boy was I wrong. I looked under my car and it looked like a waterfall of antifreeze running from what looked to be like right behind my crank pulley. Well, I took it home and haven't looked at it yet. I plan on tearing into it tonight to see what it is. I figure the waterpump, but would it leak that bad??? Also, it never seemed to try to overheat on the way home. I don't know what it could be. 2nd, I'm worried that it soaked my Opti. If thats the case then I will really be pissed. If that wasn't enough, when I was driving home I was going around a corner and it seemed like my powersteering just totally went out. It got really hard to stear and then came back. It did that a few times as if there was a dead spot in the rack and pinion.

Ok here are my THREE questions

As far as the anitfreeze leak goes, what do you guys think it could be? And if it is the water pump, what type if pump should I get and how hard will it be to replace it?

If the Opti is wasted, should I replace it with a stock unit, a MSD unit, or a completely different setup???

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY POWER STEERING?!?!?!

Well thats my story, BTW, I have about 1000 dollars to waste on this damn thing so it doesn't really matter how much everything costs.

fix the water leak and all the other problems will go away. If you want do the opti while your in there. An AC delco stock unit is your ownly choice.

buy your stuff to fix the problem, and then while your in there throw in a small cam, just get the support mods later.

Don't bother.. for 1 thats just a cap and rotor, chage the ENTIRE opti. for 2 the MSD kit is NOT available yet. There is no date yet for it's release.

The power steering prob could just be water or antifreeze on the belt.

Sounds like the water pump went and the coolant went all over. That was probably causing the power steering to go away.

Dont know your milage, but if its up there, a new opti might be a good investment. It would be a good upgrade to get a Meizere pump. Since you didnt list any mods, Im assuming shes pretty well stock? So a new water pump and opti would be a good first step. Andlike HBH Racing said, while your in there get a bigger cam.

Good luck

If you replace the opti then be sure to take the cap off and put loctite on the screws holding the rotor in. Been hearing alot of stories about the screws being loose and the rotor flying apart.

The car has 102,000 miles on it. I am running a 150 wet shot, moroso CAI, GMMG exhaust and underdrive pulleys. I planned on putting in a new cam at the end of the summer but I guess now is the time. I am going to go with the 224/236 114 LSA from comp cams. Sound like a good cam for a 150 shot??? I got under the car last night and couldn't tell where it was leaking from since all the antifreezed all ready dried up. I will have to start it up and put it on the lift and see where it is leaking from. If I do have to get a water pump then Meizere is the way to go. I just put one on my friends mustang and damn those things are some nice units. I really hope I don't need a new opti. That will really suck. But I might as well get one since I will have everything else apart anyways. Any other suggestions?

I agree that the power steering probably went out due to belt slippage. Also it sounds like your water pump, may as well do the opti at the same time or you can do the delteq and never worry about it again.

The delteq gets rid of the rotor part of the optispark, that seems to be the part that fails or flies apart most of the time. With the delteq you also have 4 coils instead of one which means more saturation time but from what I hear they can be a pain to get mounted somewhere. Check it out at www.delteq.com

The cheapest place for a waterpump is at Napa. AC Delco replacement $145 new in the box. Just changed mine during winter.
Tip: Spend the extra $3xx and replace the opti with stock or ANYTHING...

I think i am just going to get a Meizere. As far as the opti goes, I still don't know what to do.

Get the csi(r) pump then you dont have to clearance your fan shroud I heard on the others that the waterpump will hit and u have to cut a notch, but if you are doing a cam it really doesnt matter since youll have to pull radiator and fans anyway

there is no sence not replacing the entire assembly. It's the best way to go about it especialy since all that coolant leaked onto it. Just doing a cap and rotor is prety pointless at this point.
