Yeah I've tried to do some research in varying oils and have found AMSOIL to exceed the closest competitor, Mobil 1, in every test. Interesting fact: apparently all AMSOIL formulas must improve fuel economy, or they're rejected. Well yeah I did read that in one of their catalogs, but it doesn't seem like something they'd lie about.
That is true... they do have to improve the fuel economy or face rejection. And I totally understand skepticism when it comes to oil and such... people definitely have their favorites. Best thing to do as has been mentioned in this thread already, is to check a non-biased site like bobistheoilguy.com. Its in a place like that's best interest to tell it like it is... and oils like Amsoil always stand out there.

Just out of curiousity, if you don't mind my asking... what do you pay for your Amsoil oil and filter (like what formula, and what part #filter), including tax if you can provide it. I like to compare how my pricing is compared to others around the country. You don't have to post up, you can PM me if that's better...

Well I don't remember the part number of the oil filter...I simply asked the cashier what amsoil filter was for an LT1. I know it's a 12,500 mile filter (though I'd never run it that long)

All in all I pay
$7.49/quart of 20W-50 Severe Racing full synthetic
$20.69 for the filter (damn that is one expensive filter)

oh 6% MI tax would obviously be something like $3.60 in addition.

Just wanted to make sure my price is in line with others out there... for reference, my price would be about the same (slightly less) shipped to your door, which also includes the cost of shipping (about $8) and sales tax in the price quote.

Maybe its different for the LT1s, if it is, my mistake. The LS1s take 5.5 quarts, so you'd buy 6 quarts... I just go ahead and put the full 6 quarts in, since the pan will take over 7 without causing a problem.

Gotcha... didn't realize that.

So your local price, 5 quarts of Severe Service 20w50 and 1 SDF25 filter would be $61.65 or so... my prices are right in line (maybe a little lower) shipped and taxed.

Now for 2 oil changes worth, (10 quarts and 2 filters) the difference grows a little bit there.

Thanks... helps out to provide a comparison, I want to make sure I'm providing a competitive enough price for people.

Similar experience for me with Redline. I'm sold on thier 15W-40 product. This is for a track ONLY car which sees high temps and rev's. However, it is still early in its live and I do not have longevity reports yet. an oil analysis is due within the next month as I'm ready to cycle out the old stuff for new.

F.W.I.W., Amsoil does whats called a "four ball bearing wear test" before they make ANY claims, they basically coat these four ball bearings with oil and let them WEAR until the oil film is gone. Amsoil has the smallest "wear scar".It is a government testing agency that tests for them. Also their 10w 30 is THE ONLY oil that is turbo "approved". Well worth the $ I.M.H.O. my$.02

Long time since I looked at this thread, anyways... Seems like "Bob" only likes Schaeffer's... And its kinda funny, we have 3 Dodge Ram 3500s, 2005, 2004 (gone now), 2002 and a Ford F-250 (7.3 Powerstroke) All use Shell Rotella oil and Lucas, yet Ive never seen oil come out foamy... and the 2002 has 320,000 miles on it, 2004 had 99,000, and 2005 with 90,000 on it... Hmm.

I would assume by the time you got under the car to drain it the oil has settled. Unless you're draining your oil as the motor's running

No, but done it many times after a truck has just come in... meaning it still burns. I dunno, first time Ive ever heard of anyone saying anything bad about Lucas, on my TA and Charger Im going to use X1r (now if you wanna find some evidence on that not working... The biggest of big ships built in Finland run it).

Dont mean to get in an argument but, yeah w/e. I wonder why he did not add Lucas to the Schaeffers.

here was my response.

also just go find oil discussions on www.FRRAX.com or other road racing forums to find out what works and why. drag racing does not push the limits of the oiling system or the oil. road racing however does.
