rust color type stuff near top of oil dip stick

i have noticed some rust colored stuff near the top of my dipstick on my 02 ws6, i have cleaned it off and it came back. does anyone have any input to what might be causing this? the car runs great. and it is only near the top of the oil dipstick. thanks

Without more detailed information it would be hard to diagnose. I would hate to say at this point but it would cause me at least mild concern right now.
It sounds like it may be water in the oil, but in my experience it is less rust colored and more a tan to beige color. Engine oil and water whipped to a foamy goo settles on cooler things like the top of the dipstick and the underside of the oil fill cap. Check there, too.
Check your coolant level and keep an eye on it.
I had a crack in the lifter galley on the #8 bore on a '88 350 Chevy truck and I had the brown goo under the oil filler cap. That's what clued me in that there was a problem. I found a leak in the head gasket and when they opened it up the main crack was inside. I don't remember the details but it was under an extended warranty and it got fixed with only a $100 charge.
Others may be able to tell in more detail with additional information.
