Weird problem with my car

Weird problem with my car This has happened 4 or 5 times in the past month... I start up my car and the RPMs dip down to about 500 and my car wants to stall. Shut it off, turn it back on and it's fine.
Well, the other night I tried to start it and the lights flickered on and off and the clock reset itself and my car wouldn't start, it almost seemed like the battery was dead. Got out and checked the connections on the battery and they were good. Got back in and this time it started up fine so I started driving and I wasn't even out of the parking lot before the lights started flickering on and off again and my car stalled. I drove it to my buddies house right down the street and about halfway there I had to restart it and then it started running normal.
Since then it's only acted up once and it was fine once I shut it off and restarted it.
My friend said maybe it's the alternator but I replaced it not even 6 months ago.
Any ideas?

Is the volt gauge reading around 14 when your cars running fine? Might want to do a load test on the battery. Also I've replaced a alternater or a truck before 1 mouth the volt gauge started read upward of 16 volts. The voltage regulator went out on it and I got a free one.
