Does anyone rely on the "oil life monitor" in these cars??? I use Mobil 1 and change it every 3K or so, but I've only ever seen the light come on once.

Mine has come on once. I change my Mobil 1 15-50w plus Prolong at 6,500 miles each time. And once I forgot to reset the oil monitor and it came on at what would have been about 6,900 miles as I recall.

The oil life system is based off of your driving habits. If you drive it hard then it will suggest you change the oil sooner than if you do not. When I picked up the car (43mi on odo) i was using quaker state performance (dino) 5w30. I switched to mobil 1 syn of the same wieght at about 40k.

I change the oil about every 6000 miles depending on how i drive. I have noticed that the car does burn oil now that she has synthetic. If the motor was burning oil on the dino then it wasn't enough to catch my attention.

Mobil 1 since new, low miles car (3-4K a year), manual indicates to change annually when miles are low. I have changed the oil in the past after only having about 1000 miles when the oil was in the car for 9 months.

I use Mobil 1 5w-30. I change it when the oil monitor says to or once a year. This is around 5000 miles. Since the monitor is calibrated for dyno oil, this should give plenty of protection with synthetic oil.

I no longer use Mobil 1 I use Castrols synthetic or Valvolines synthetic.........I prefer the Castrol.

I change mine eh...................3-5K miles.........the amount of oil I add to mine makes up for the lack of earlier changes

And my motor is coming out for a complete rebuild with forged internals so it really doesn't matter to me right now.

Definatly mobil 1 full synthetic. Have an 86 audi turbo thats had it since it was new got 252k on it and not a problem. Been running in T/A 3-4kmi changes. I use 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter. Synthetics dont apply to the 3 month rule. Dino oil becomes acidic as it breaks down, synthetics do not.

I've used Mobil 1 5w-30 and a K & N oil filter in my Formula since I bought it in 2001, and it now has 99,000 miles on it with no headaches or burning oil. I rely on the oil life meter to change mine as it get mostly highway miles and oil get changed about every 6500-7000 miles and looks good.
My GMC truck has also been getting Mobil 1 and a K & N since new.

I'd look up Patman for oil questions, as he's done tons of tests on this subject.

Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W30 once a year. Car comes out of storage each year after the salt is off the roads and promptly gets an oil/filter change (ACDelco filter). It usually only sees 4-5k miles/year.

I've used Castrol Full Synthetic and i've burned about 1 quart between changes. So i changed to Mobile 1 and since may i've used 2 quarts of oil. I don't drive it hard at all and yet i've burned more with mobile 1. Good or Bad not sure?

Hey black00TA, what is it you mean when you said "then pump the gas pedal 3-6 times, then turn it on.." The part "then turn it on.." I'm assuming it's...to start the engine?

I wonder... if this way will work on my '02 its manual indicates to turn ignition on w/o starting engine then press and hold the trip/odometer reset button for about 4 seconds or so until the oil change light on dash begins to blinks, then release the button and then its reset.

10w30, changed every 3k miles for the past 20k miles. I dont know if i will be sticking with mobil 1 anymore because i just saw bubbles on my oil dipstick today, i think mobil1 is too watery i might try Redline or Amsoil.
