Default Mobil 1

How many of you TA lovers use synthetic oil, and if so, how often do you change it? (I have a 2000 WS6).

I've used Mobil 1 5w30 since my car was new. I change it every 3K miles. No problems at all.

Mobil 1. I changed it when I bought the car. But it will be every 3000 or every 3 months whichever comes first when the time comes.

Someone I know who uses Mobile 1 in his Mercedes was really suprised I changed my oil every 3000 or so. He was told that synthetic is supposed to last much, much longer.

That's what they say, but why take any chances? There are tons of posts on the subject of oils:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1875328

"Mobile" is in Alabama. "Mobil" is oil.

I use mobil 1, and so did the previous owner of my car. I'm probably not going to change it for another 3k mi, I don't know when it was changed last but it was less than 10k mi ago, and the car was switched over to synthetic at around 20k mi. It now has 70k mi on it and runnning strong!

I think that mobil 1 wil last for 20k miles tho.

Does anyone recommend a certain weight oil for 6,800rpm? My new cam will be up that much soon. (after I rebuild my 6speed) I use Mobil 5w30 now, but I'm worried about oil film thickness at close to 7k rpm Any advise?

You shouldn't be worried. Do your regular oil changes and you shouldn't have a problem.

Btw, I've torn apart motors who's owners religiously change their oil. They actually look new inside.

Oh, I change my oil every 3k miles with no problems.

Yes it will last much, much longer. Infact BMW changes the oil in their customer's cars at 15k mile intervals (service plan) and that's while the car is under warranty too. Even dino oil will last longer then 3,000 miles. Car guys are just overly **** and change early. I just changed mine after 2k miles. Mobile 1 is probably good to over 5k though.

yep. They changed the oil (Castrol Syntec 5w30) in my wife's Mini Cooper at 15k intervals. I assumed they did that so there would be only 3 changes under warranty. Her BMW dealership normally charges $80 for a change.
I'm changing it at 10k intervals now. That motor hasn't burned a drop of oil in 40k miles.
BTW, I change out the oil in my fbod about 5-7k miles and I am using GC 0w30. I'm going to try the Mobil 0w40 next change.

If you unsure about your oil you should check out http://www.blackstone-labs.com/.

They'll tell you if you're hurting anything and if you are overextending your oil changes.

I have used Mobil 1 15-50w since 1984 when I started using it in my 1984 15th Ann. TA. I have used it in all my vehicles since and currently use it in my 30th Ann. TA and F-150 - both with a Mobil 1 oil filter and Prolong oil additive. I have always changed it at 6,500 miles and have never had any oil related issues.

when you swith to synthetic oil check your oil levels to see if you are burning oil. most synthetics will use more oil than non-synthetic oil. so if you were burning oil before and didn't notice it, you may notice it when you change but don't worry a little burning of oil is common just make sure you have the proper levels, and its not burning a lot of oil. I also use mobil 1, and no problems.
