Default air conditioner..engine removal...

Hey guys, ummmmmm do I need to remove the air conditioning assembly to remove the engine? My chiltons manual says i do, but the book kind of sounds like generic engine removal for any car.

If i can remove the engine without touching that stupid thing it would save me alot of time and money. Thanks for any and all help, suggestions, thoughts, feelings, complaints, troubles at home...just joking lol thanks!!

you have to remove the compressor off the engine unless you want to pay for a recharge on your ac after you put it all back together.

if you dont remover the compressor you have to remove the lines in which all the refridgerant and oil will go everywhere

I have done it a few times with out taking it out but it is easier if youy take it out.

You buy the R143A(About $45) and I will charge it for you

Since you are closer to Ellis and he does this all the time, you might want to pm him for more details (he responded in the NW forum). If you fubar it he can at least walk you through it...they are a pita to get out without removing the AC first - unless you don't want the AC anyway.

If you take the a/c out and want to reuse it, cap off the ends of the compressor or it'll absorb tons of moisture.

I've also heard that although a/c removal is optional, the power steering should not be messed with. If air gets in the system it's a big PITA to get it out and make it work right again.
