headlight motors are the devil
I dumped $80 into brass gears just to have the epoxy fail and the cover contiually slip off. Well after a few uninstall/reinstalls with different kinds of epoxy (letting it sit for a day, easy, clamped and everything) they still wouldnt stick. So for a few weeks I drove around with small c-clamps on the motors.
So a week or so ago, the drivers-side gear started slipping. This was the original trouble-maker, but the cover is basically held on by the bracket so I have no idea why it would be slipping. I pulled it out and the BRASS GEAR HAS A NOTCH IN IT 1/2" LONG. Yes, you read that right. Its about right in the center of the gear. I flipped it to the backside and reinstalled in disbelief. Also, fearing that the vibration would eventually loosen the c-clamps, I took the good one out also, looked it over as well, and re-greased both gears and zip-tied them tightly closed.
So, last night I'm getting in the car and flip on the headlights. The drivers side does nothing. I'm like..."Am I seeing things?" So I turn them off and back on...up comes the drivers side. Great. I get home and turm em off...GRRRRRRRRGGGG. Yep, slipping on the drivers side again.
What the HELL am I doing wrong and what the HELL should I do next. 3 different kinds of epoxy, the caps of the motors are sealed all the way around as best I could see...HELP!?
for a new motor and assembly. now i need to get it painted
