Thanks ACW. Guess I'm not going insane after all, since it is in fact the BCM. That wiring diagram should come in handy.

Leslie, you might want to check and see if it's still getting really hot after taking it apart and putting it back together, to see if it actually fixed anything. A lot of relays get pretty toasty, but it shouldn't be so hot that it's discoloring the wires.

I only got a chance to snoop around for a few minutes today, and didn't find anything useful. I also tried turning the switch on/off a few times and opening/closing the door to see if it was in one of its moods or not, no luck getting the problem to pop up while I had tools and a multimeter out. I think I'll have more time tomorrow to look at it, so I'll post up again if I figure out anything useful.

Ok, so the RAP is located in the driver's door? Or is it actually inside the BCM? And we are basically just checking wire connections inside there?

The Rap is on the firewall just to the right of the gas pedal.

Ok, I dont want to be a broken record and be asking something that has already been answered, but I have to bring this thread back from the dead...Anybody find a solution? Is it hard or expensive to just replace the RAP module and call it a day? I just put a new headunit in and it just keeps getting worse. I messed with the RAP module with no luck. Any help pleaseeee

I still dont have mine fixed either. I've heard its likely the BCM rather than the RAP module. I may try to get a used one and see if that fixes mine, and I'll post up when I do.

I'm trying to jump start this dead thread once again also. My 97 TA has this same problem. Has anyone solved the problem yet?

I wasn't aware there was a seperate RAP module, I thought it was part of the BCM??

On mine, I found the source of the intermittent problem, but not the reason. One of the connectors on the BCM seems to be the culprit. If I wiggle the connector, the radio cuts in and out. I thought I had it solved, I thought it was the dark blue wire on the connector. The terminal on the end of the wire had opened up a bit, so I crimped it closed, re-connected it, and wiggled it, and it seemed to be fixed.

But....on my way into work this morning, the radio cut out again.

So...back to the drawing board.

Looks like my BCM is in need of a new one. While trying to wiggle some wires last night (wiggling the BCM itself was the only way to get the radio to come on and off) the BCM itself ended up sparking and emitting some smoke. After that lovely incident, I no longer have power door locks or courtesy lights. I guess there must have been something inside the BCM case shorting stuff out?!

Anyways, time to order a new BCM. I'll keep you updated.

Hah after more than a year of ownership my car has just started doing this and it is slightly embarassing. Not only that but FL gets very hot and the radio isn't that important but with it the windows go which makes it very hot, quickly inside the car.

Good to hear people have solved this with the BCM swap. My BCM is finally in the mail (Took me what 2 years to finally order one? ) and I'll post up my experience once it's swapped.
