Hoses in back of engine bay?

Hoses in back of engine bay? So today, my buddy and I removed my air system, egr and did the entire exhaust swap. We noticed in the back of the engine bay, there is 2 rubber hoses. Possible vacuum lines, or heater lines? One goes into the valve cover on the driver side, the other one is T'd off. Well either way they are in terrible shape. Cracked, broken. What exactly are these for is what we are wondering? As I said, we just noticed this today. I've had the car for a month and a half, and never had any real problems. I'll replace them if they are important. I will also get pics tomorrow.
