From what I have experienced the Series 2000 0w-30 and the European 5w-40 have really been good with the LS1 based engines. I am currently running the Amsoil HDD 5w-30 for its add pack. Also using Amsoil SDF64 filter.

Amsoil 5W40 European and the longer K&N HP2006 oil filter. The 5W40 really quieted down the motor vs. the GC 0W30 I was using. Piston slap on cold startup is almost gone.

Mobil 1 10w30 with a Fram filter, been using them for years on all my vehicles, great results. Plus the Fram filter looks good with the Hugger, lol.

What about Royal Purple ???

I know its expensive and I could get a 5 gallon of Mobil 1 synthetic for I think 20 dollars at WalMart but I would like to know if its worth buying it over Mobil 1.

I use 5W-30, and stick with the stock AC Delco filter. No problems as of yet.

The general concensus (sp) among those that have researched and studied the oils and oil samples used in LS based motors is that the regular Royal Purple oils (5-30, 10-30, etc.) are too thin and do not offer the protection LS based motors need. The higher end (and much more expensive) race oils do, but they are not worth the extra cost. Also if you decided to go with Mobil 1, those same individuals/individual recommend using the 0-40 if you can find it instead of the 5-30 or 10-30.
