problems in paradise Hey guys I am a newbie, but I love it so far. I just picked up my first REAL car 2-weeks ago, a 00' SS Camaro. I bought it from a dealership so they couldn't tell me a whole lot about it, other than "It's fast as hell man". The night I drove it home I noticed a couple of problems. The most noticeable was 3rd gear, it would kick out of gear. If you could get it in and give it fuel, no problems, but if you were just coasting it would literally fall out of gear. The second and more severe problem was it smokes under hard acceleration. It is more noticeable in 3 and 4. I called the dealer and brought it in and they said it was a bad synchro on the tranny and valve seals on the motor. I can live with the tranny reasoning but I am having problems with the smoking part. My wife's uncle is a mechanic at a GM/Chrysler/Mazda dealer and he says that the problem is more serious than that. He said they would have to replace the block for some reason, I don't know because I heard this through about 4-5 people. Can someone please give me some ideas. Thanks ahead of time guys.

Valve seals usually cause a big puff of smoke at start-up, then goes away, not during acceleration in my experiance.
Are you sure what color the smoke is? Assuming it's blueish (oil) I'd guess bad rings to be more likely....

Not sure what color the smoke is but it absolutely reeks of oil. No oil on the ground, so I don't think that it is a leak. I really don't get to drive but at night, and it doesn't smoke in N. 1st and 2nd not as bad as 3rd and 4th.
