Default bucking/clunking from M6

i might be completely crazy but this issue has been driving me completely mad!!

ive noticed that the higher the gear im in the more it tends to show itself.

picture driving down the road in 4th gear at around 2k rpm and you give it a little gas to keep it going and u let off and you hear/feel a slight clunk comming from somewhere between transmission and the rear-end. it never clunks when giving it gas in the same situation but it will slightly buck back before actually moving.
it only really shows itself in 3rd 4th 5th and sometimes 6th

it will also cause a clunk noise if im rolling in gear and push in the clutch which is a lot more noticeable in 1st and 3rd and 4th. and a lot when shifting gears mainly 2-3, 3-4, 4-5.

i beleive this clunking is related between rolling in gear and feeling/hearing it and pushing in the clutch while rolling and it happening.

no to the things ive done and checked to try in prevent this:
transmission rebuilt(helped slightly for a little bit)
replaced transmission mount(no luck)
replaced torque arm mount(no luck)
rear-end gears replaced(might have made it worse)

if i cant fix this problem soon im going to shoot myself in the head, it makes it to much of a pain to drive it. ive driven numerous other M6 fbodys and non of them are this bad.

if i could blame one thing it would be the 4.10's

PLEASE HELP and thank you for reading my blurb.

Does it ever clunk if, say you run out 1st gear, then get off the gas, then press the clutch? Mine clunks some times if it do things like that, I was told its just gear slack from the good 'ol 10 bolt.

ive always questioned the tailshaft because it feels like the drive shaft is actually moving forward/backwards under me, how can i test to see if the tailshaft is the culprit?

right now im using the stock torque arm, i had a BMR adjustable and still acted the same.

1st gear doesent really clunk but it will buck back and forth a lot if i ride it up a little and let off or if i try to idle rolling in first.

actually i do have a new suspision.

when my car was in for repairs after a minor accident
i had commented on the noise/clunk and he mentioned the technician had mentioned something about having slack in my spider gears.

this is one thing i have not checked into yet, but i beleive this could vary easily be the culprit......stay tuned.

Bringing up an old thread. I am having the same problem.

Things I have done to solve the probelm.

Rebuilt trans
NWB Bushing
Pilot Bearing
All new hydraulics
Tex OZ700
Poly Motor and trans Mount (Both prothane)
UMI LCAs
UMI Panhard bar
S60 rear (checked, lash is good)
strange driveshaft (rebalanced and checked twice)

I am running the stock torque arm, mount and bushing. I will be picking up the poly bushing tomorrow.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I installed a prothane poly torque arm bushing. Made things better but the problem is still there.

If you've had the gears properly set up (backlash in spec) chances are the play is in your axles.

The splines get worn out over time, and they cause play between the axles and the side gears in the diff.

The best way to check it is to pull the differential cover, hold the ring gear, and turn the wheel back and fourth to feel for play. If you can move the wheel enough to hear the clunk and the side gear never moves, you've found your clunking problem.

Its not something to be overly concerned about performance wise, its mainly just really annoying. You could try buying a set of Moser axles and see if that eliminates the play.

Do I dare say, although it doesn't happen when new, it's "normal" given the low criterion placed on refinement. I think it's just the driveshaft making lots of noise when slop is taken up. Try a carbon fiber driveshaft. Some creative engineering of the flywheel (incorporating a dual-mass unit) would help too.

I am having this same problem that many people are having with the clunk in the drivetrain. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem that was able to fix it?
My problem has added a couple of symptoms:
A clicking noise from the rear end from a stop,
Also when I veer to the left around 30mph I get a metronomic thudding from the passenger side of the rear end.
I wonder if it has to do with a worn axle...

Just found this thread.

Same issue for me..mods in sig. If I punch it in 1st and quickly let
off I get the bucking feel from the rear end. Did anyone ever find
a solution to this? It never did this when I was stock that I recall.

I've checked every bolt that I can think of and banged around under
neath with a rubber mallet. Nothing is popping out at me.

My shifter doesn't jump at all.

I've changed my diff fluid..looked decent.

I'm debating either replacing my torque arm bushing or just
getting a founders adjustable. But I don't want to just throw
random parts at it..
