Default Need a little LT1 help

well guys heres the deal, ive been noticing a recent development in my engines behavior in that when im idling, it will click and the car will shake and it gets increasingly worse as it gets hotter, probably about 17-20 clicks in 30 seconds. also, the throttle response is extremely sluggish especially at any RPM below 2k, after that it performs like its supposed to. so what im asking is as im alost positive its the opti, i was wondering if it could be anything else, i ran a search and couldnt find anyone else who had experienced the clicking and shaking, though the sluggishness is typical signs of my opti goin out. any help is appreciated, and id like to get it fixed right away, it feels like im driving in a dad-gum tractor

First off check your plugs/wires, that is a good cheap start, but knowing LT1's or atleast the one threw almost every bolt on you could at, the Optispark may be going out. If you are a first time mechanic then I wouldn't reccomend replacing it yourself, dont get me wrong I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to do it, but its a big job an if it isn't done right than it can go out again within 100 miles of putting it in, or you can have water pump problems etc. Do a search for Optispark, and read up on them a little bit. But definetly start with plugs and wires, as that ended up being the problem on my LT1.. Good luck, keep us updated.

I assume the clicking you are referring to is coming from under the hood. Check yer plug wires, if they are arcing on something this will make a clicking sound and cause the miss. If you look under the hood at night with the car running you should be able to see it arcing if that's the problem.

Replacing the opti especially a vented one is not a big deal. The crank pulley must come out and the water pump removed. After that it's only 3 bolts and the opti's out.
