lt1 cooling problems

i need some major help! i was just yesterday replaced my cars stat and put in a manual fan switch. well today i went to a local car show with my mom, furthest i have driven it since. when i did it i got a little on my engine that when i got there was burning off. when i got home i noticed a lot more steam coming out of my hood and when i popped it i saw that the water neck was spurting anti-freeze, about a cup i think. i think i got some strands from a rag stuck in it. i question is do you guys think that this was enough to short out my opti. it wasn't surgeing on the way home, nor were there any of that tell-tale signs of a bad opti. i am just afraid to start it up, and it is the origional opti, but it is the vented kind.
