Backfiring during deceleration
My engine is backfiring during gear shifts and deceleration. What could be causing this? No check engine light or any other sign of a problem.

[QUOTE=Does it do all the time or just when its cold?[/QUOTE]
If it does it only when it is cold. That's pretty normal. I think everyones does that. I think it is cool. Mine got worse right when my cats went bad. Factory warrenty so I replaced them. I had both go out (at different time about 3 months apart) at about 49K.
Like I said. For further help, need answer !

It is doing it most of the time now. Actually seems worse once it warms up. I have no cats and only one set of O2 sensors. Speartech reprogrammed my computer for this setup and everything was going great for the first 2000 miles.

your check valve are stuck or have gone bad on your AIR system. Remove your smog pump completely and it will stop. Trust me. It took over a year to find the problem. the check valves are located in the hard pipes that run to each exhaust manifold. They are inside those suacer shapped things.

Give us a 'lil more detail, like what mods, if any, you've done. At first glance I'd have to say cam timing and ignition retard could be the culprits, but we'd make educated guesses with more info on the engine/tranny combo.

I am running no smog equipment, including no cats. I have headers and an xpipe. 6speed tranny. It was not doing this at first, just started after ~2000miles. This engine only has ~4000 miles on it even though it is 5 years old.
