Hey guys I have a 1993 Z28 with 124k on the clock. Car is completely stock and has definately seen its better days. It ran great up until a few months ago when I noticed a slight miss at low rpms. This made me think it was in need of a minor tuneup (spark plugs/wires.) I was told the slight miss was probably a bad wire breaking down at low rpms. I proceeded to drive the car everyday because at the time it was my only means of transportation. A few weeks after noticing the miss I was out cruising the f/way and gave it some gas only to have the car shut off, backfire, and then make a slight hissing noise as i rolled to a stop. I waited a few minutes with the key off and the car in park and then started it again. Car started up fine and I drove off slowly and gently. Car ran fine until I had to merge into traffic and got on the gas a little and then it backfired loudly and shut off again. It started back up in neutral as I was coasting and I drove it home slowly. I didn't drive the car for a few weeks after this instance. I got anxious one night and a little curious and got back in the car. As soon as i got on the accelerator the car shut off and then backfired very loudly. Ever since then it will not start. I replaced the coil and removed the optispark for a rebuild. The removal of the opti revealed rust on the distributor and rotor and also corrosion on the cap terminals. I sanded/cleaned and then rebuilt the opti... The water pump gaskets were bad so I figured that the problem was probaly the waterpump leaking into the opti and of course my car has the opti w/ no vacuum or vents so that left no way for the water to vent. After rebuilding everything and putting it all back together I threw in a new coil just incase and tried to start the car... NO FIRE... please help me w/ this problem because I can't live w/ out the car much longer and I don't have the wallet to purchase unessasary parts Thanks, Andy

 

Car will not start... i posted a thread giving backround info on the car and possible reason it wont start but no one was willing to help me out... I could really use any advice, tips, help etc. So please help me

 

any help?

 

1. Check and recheck all connections.

2. Pull a spark plug, keep it connected to it's wire, and hold it against a ground. Crank the motor and see if it is sparking.

3. If none of that works, buy my 5K mile, 1 year old Opti that I have for sale. (I'm serious, I have a nearly new opti for sale because my new motor uses a later model pin drive opti, so my spline drive opti is useless to me now)

 

just read your other post, I had the same problem with my car and it was the opti. Put a new one on and it ran for a hour before the new one took a dump. I have seen them right out of the box, with mostiure in them. did you get a brand new one? if so take it back.
