Default Riddle me this Batman

Alrighty then, sorry for the long thread but I want to give you guys enough details to work off of. The car is an 01 Z28, M6. I am the second owner so I don't know what the owner before me did as far as maintenance. Tranny was dropped and rebuilt a year ago, has about 10,000 miles on it. I park the car the night prior, everything to include the valve train ticking noise was normal. I come out the next morning to start her up. Immediately I hear a loud, did I say loud, rythmic knocking noise. I traced it to underneath the car towards the front of the trans.. Whenever I apply the accelerator the knock increases along with the RPM. When I depress the clutch pedal I can feel the same rythmic pattern in the pedal, the knock sound deadens a little also. I was able to drive in reverse about four feet and then I put it in first and drove forward about for feet. Everything under the hood and car looked normal. I had the car towed under extended warranty to the nearest dealer where the car currently resides. I hope it's not a clutch problem because the warranty company doesn't cover wear items nor does it cover diagnostics so I'm out labor costs already. Makes me wonder why I even bought the warranty. Well there you have it gents, any feedback or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'll let you guys that live in Northern Virginia know what kind of service you can expect from this dealership. Thanks in advance.

Just a qiuck update for the think tank. Just got a call from the dealership and they pulled the clutch and said it was a little worn, but in no way caused the knock. Now their tearing into the motor. It will be a couple of days before they can get back to me. I hope that shadey warranty company doesn't try and find a excuse to not honor the warranty! Lets assume the engine is kaput, would you guys pay your own dime to say put a stroker motor in? How about names of some good third party companies that build good crate engines? Or would staying with the LS family of crate engines be best? My goal, if possible, is 450 RWHP on engine. Thanks again. If I have to I would go FI, spray would come in behind FI.

How many miles on the car? Does the sound increase as the rpm's increase?

Have the check the cats. We had the cats go bad on the Firehawk...the whole thing broke loose in one big chuck and was rattling around inside the metal.

If you want feedback on the dealership, post what dealership either on here in the Eastern Section or over on easternfbody.com. Someone might have experiance with the dealership you took it to.

Thanks Kenafin, I'll ask about the dealership in the appropriate sections. As for the miles, it has 56,532. As for the knock, it doesn't increase in volume but it does get faster as the RPM climbs. By the way, nice pair of cars you have there.
