defroster = AC Took the car out of it's warm dry home to go to O.C. cruise week. Anyway on the way down I turned on the defroster and no hot air, so I pulled over to check it out. I checked for the simple thing, no leaks,broken hoses. Then I noticed the ac stuff was cooled. When I turn my defroster or defrost + feet on the ac is turning on. The dash vents and just feet work fine.WTF!! I checked the vac line on the back of the intake and all the ones under dash looks good.Any ideas?
AC comes on with any defrost mode, GM cars have done that for 40 years. Its intended to remove humidity and clear your window faster. What bothers me is GM traditionally doesn't let you toggle off the A/C if I want which wastes fuel.
Defrost runs the A/C to strip moisture and then
through the heater core. I'd guess that your
vacuum operated diverter flap gizmos are out
to lunch, that steer the air in the ducting. The
vacuum needs to be traced, and see if you have
it in to the control panel and out the back to the
hot box, etc. all the way down the line. Fun, fun.
