Default Easier to Work On: LT1 vs. LS1

For things such as headers, plugs, cam, basically everything I guess, which one is easier to work on in a f-body or Corvette based on your experience? Just curious because I'll be getting some kind of LSx based vehicle before too long and I hope it is easier to work on than my LT1. The plug change with stock manifolds on it was a nightmare to say the very least.

I would say neither one are very easy to work on but if you wanted easier than I would say LS1. I've worked on my LT1 tons of times and helped my buddy with his LS1. It just seems like everything under my hood is a little harder to get at or something is a little more of a PITA! I definitely have more cuts on my hands after working on my car than on my buddy's. Good luck!

The only thing I can compare is a header install (its the only thing I have done on an LT1), but the LS1 was definitely easier for me as far as taht goes.

Isn't a cam install on an LS1 Corvette far more in depth than an LS1 F-Body?

I've only heard, so I could be wrong. Something about removing the front suspension.

did plugs on my LS1 and my dads LT1, LS1 was easyer
put 1.6 rocker arms on my dads LT1, and then looked at the coil packs and everything else thats on top of the LS1, LT1 seems to be easyer
changed the air filter on both, LS1 easyer

both have their ups and downs, but id say the LS1 is easyer

coil packs are easier on LS1s

I've never done spark plugs on an LT1 but have heard it's difficult... on my LS1 I can do plugs in about 45 mins tops

I have both in my garage.

The LS1 is easier to work on. Change the cam? Don't even have to pull the intake manifold. And plug wires are a breeze. Good luck with the LT1 plug wires going around the power steering pump. And all of the gaskets on the LS1 (except head gaskets, unless you run cometics) are reusable. LT1's, when you pull the intake and/or waterpump and/or timing cover, gotta lay down new gaskets and RTV, old-school style.

Well, now that you add Corvette and F-body to the list, that changes things a bit. The Corvette engine bay is easier to get to than the f-body with its cowl overhang. Any vette would be easier to work on than an f-body.

I'm going to say LS1 because of the dry intake manifold (no oil or sealing issues) and the reusable gaskets everywhere except the heads. It ads a lot of time just doing gasket surface prep anytime you do anything on an LT1.

Removing the coils on an LS1 is almost an equal PITA though. But then again I have to remove the alternator on my LT1 any time I want to take the Pass. side valve cover off.

Hmm, so the best to work on would be a LS1 Corvette then. Too bad I can't afford one, lol. I wouldn't really say the plug change on my car was hard, just extremely time consuming because I took off the y-pipe, steering knuckle cover, and alternator and I still had a hard time with a couple of them on the passenger side. I would have removed my EGR valve too but, like you guys said, that cowl overhang is a real PITA. I know the EGR removal has been done but I don't see how in the hell those people did it.

Anyone who has even looked in the engine bay of both cars should know the answer. This poll should be unanimous.

I've looked under the hood of a LS1 car before but I really don't remember too much about it, that is why I was wondering.

LOL, no question, LS1.

I love LT1s but they're a ******* pain in the *** no matter what you're doing.

Only way an LT1 is easier to work on than an LS1 is if you do this

I've owned both and currently work on both, LS1 hands down, being smaller and more compact is definately easier to get in and work around compared to the ol LT1.
Thats my bro's ride after pulling the engine out the bottom so we could send the 396 to be refreshed.
