low oil light hello all
my SS started showing me the low oil light back when i changed the air filter. i added a small amount of oil to it and the light went away for quite some time. anywho, yesterday it came back on, so i read a few posts here and added oil about a 3rd of a quart. today it is back on again but a few side notes i parked on a slight incline with the car facing down and everytime i go under the hood my lid is loose. no smoke no smells can someone help me. thanks in advance

Is it low again? Check the level after the car is warm, then sitting for 5 minutes after turning it off. A third of a quart isn't much oil. The lid doesn't have anything to do with it - the oil level sensor is in the oil pan on the passenger side. My driveway is on an incline with car facing up - light has never come on.
Edit: Just in case it turns out to be the sensor it's PN 24507190 GM list is something like $47.

The low oil light won't come on until it is at least a full quart low. Adding just a little may cause the light to come back on depending on the angle the car is parked at. Instead of going by your light, check the dipstick. Thats why GM put them there.

yes around 2 quarts low...the low oil is an idiot light, you should check you oil level by the dipstick regularly...GM put that in there so that idiots who don't check their oil won't blow their motor...

Mine just came on. It was just below the operating range on the dipstick. Never happened before. No leaks to be found. I switched to the larger Delco filter last oil change. It's got about 2000 miles since the last change and about 54K on the car. I'm stumped. I added 1 qt and it's still just a little on the lower side.

I've been having a problem with mine too. It just comes on sometimes. It's been doing it for a couple months now. Today it was on on my way to work, off on the way to lunch, and on again on the way back. It's completely full of oil. I just changed it actually. I check it all the time and I always keep it full. It usually use a little over half a quart in between oil changes. I'm guessing it's the sensor, but I really don't know. Anybody have any ideas?
