changed the oil today and have a smoke smell??
I ended up buying a camaro last weekend and it was due for an oil change, is what the guy told me. Anyway the car has been greatly taken car of and he's kept the oil changed and such to perfection. The car only has 28k miles on it. Anyway I changed the oil today with Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic.( 5 quart jug) And when I got home I smelled a smoke/buring smell coming from the engine. I couldn't really pick out where it was coming from but the smell went away in 5 or so minutes. I also checked out the owners manual and it says to put in 5.5 quarts of oil in. Is it because I didn't put in enough oil or did I maybe get some oil on the oil pan and its burning?? Any help will be appreciated.

I bet that you spilt some oil on the head or on the motor somewhere when you were filling it and it was just burning off when the motor got hot, thats why it went away, dont worry about it, but i would put that other .5 of a quart in,

yeah we need 5 1/2 quarts of oil with stock size filter.
i bought two of those 5 quarts mobil 1 jugs at walmart and just have extra now for the next change down the road.
u probably spilled some on the engine somewhere. i did and expected to see alittle smoke / smell the oil burning off.
