Default best ATF fluid?

Royal Purple? Amsoil? My dad swears up and down about Amsoil. I use Royal Purple for everything in my car. Any comments?

So far, there are 92 comments here...

Royal Purple?

EDIT:
Sorry just realized that this thread is engine oil, not tranny fluid.

Both are good ATF's. I use Amsoil in the transmission & Royal purple in the rear end.

I always stick with NON-synthetic (conventional DexIII) trans fluid. There are arguements for both sides, but when FLP build the trans for my WS6 they said to avoid any synthetic fluid in the trans, or any 4L60E for that matter. I follow that same advice for all my auto transmissions now.

I normally use Valvoline DexIII conventional ATF.

Ive used synthetic tranny fluid twice in two different cars and ended up draining it out and putting in regular Castrol DexIII back in.

Huh, that's interesting. If mine ever does that, I'll change fluids first. Thanks for the information.

Any brand of Dexron III I would recommend. Specifically Valvoline is what I use. Stay away from synthetic trans fluids such as Royal Purple and Red line. They are too slippery and can cause premature wear of the transmission.
