Default tranny leak

The other day i noticed i was leaking some transmission fluid from the 'back' of the transmission...i believe it is just the gasket between the transmission and drive shaft "area" (not good with terminology) i was wondering if this was pretty common and if anyone has some instructions on how to swap the gaskets. I dont really want to drop the tranny but if thats what i have to do them so be it...need some advice and instructions...thanks!

Probably the rear seal where the driveshaft goes into the tranny. They do go out, but it only costs about $4 from an autoparts store.
You just pull the driveshaft out, pry out the old seal and pop in the new one.

Peace,
Craig.

do you know the part number or the actual name of the seal that goes there?

Also what are some other spots that might be leaking from there.

I want to replace any gasket around there that might be a potential leak problem in the future to avoid having to do it all over again..might as well spend $10 on a gasket then $2000 for a new tranny...thanks guys!

I think it is called the rear seal or rear oil seal. The parts guy will know what you are talking about. Other seals in the area, I had the spedometer sending unit spring a leak. There is an O-ring around the speed sensing unit, but mine was leaking from the electrical connector so I had to replace the whole thing. Good Luck. When you take the U-Joint off be sure to put some tape around it so that the sleeves don't come off and spill needle bearings all over the place.
