Default temperature

my car barely heats up past 160 like maybe 165 170 and it stays there does any of yalls do that. i just got it so i dont know maybe its ogt a 160 therm in it, is it good for a car to run that cold?

Looking at your other post, it seems you have a '98. '98s get a pretty accurate temp gage, the '99+ cars temp gage is basically useless...it reads 210 anytime the temp is between basically 180-230.

Having said that, are you seeing these temps on the gage or with a scan tool? If it's on the gage, I'd verify with a scan tool first and make sure the reading is correct.

It's possibile it might have a 160 stat, and maybe even fan programming to match. Are you in a cold climate?

yeah its cold out side where i am im in north carolina its not real cold but its chilly. And yeah that was going by the gauge see somtimes it would go up to like 180 but it would go back down

The factory stat will allow coolant temps to dip as low as 190-192 (via scan tool) in cold enough air, so a reading somewhere in the 180-190 range on the factory '98 gage should be about right with enough air flowing across the radiator.

If it really concerns you though, you'll need to check it with a scanner to get the actual exact temp.
