Flushing and refilling with coolant

Flushing and refilling with coolant I changed my coolant over to the green stuff last night. I started by flushing the system by draining, running,refilling with water and draining again. I did this 4x till it was dark out. I proceeded to put 1 gal of Prestone antifreeze in but could barely get in the whole bottle. So obviously there was no way for me to drain the block because i didn't know where the drain bolts where? Can anyone help me out on this, if they are even accessible. Ty

Im asuming you are talking about a LS based engine, if so, your not supposed to use the "green stuff" by prestone. I've heard its corrosive to the aluminum motor. I belive your supposed to use the orange or red coolant that is made for aluminim blocks.

I usually flush mine with stuff from the parts store
then "reflush" with distilled water several times.
On the last drain I pull the Tstat housing off to drain
a little more.
Based on the total capacity and what I drain out I
estimate what is left in the block and mix straight
coolant with distilled water, biased a little more than
50/50 mix.
DexCool is not the only option. Extended life coolants
are now available that happen to be green that mix
with either Dex or the old standard green coolant.
I've been running the Advanced Auto Parts store brand
for a while.
Here is what may happen: one CSR will tell you that
Dex is the best thing since home brew. Another in the
same store will tell you the other extended life coolants
are good to go. Do the research and see what you
think.
