Default Heater question...

Is it just me or are the heaters not very good on the F-body's. The heater on my 02' Trans Am on full blast just seems like it isn't very warm in the least...anyone with any help or maybe thinks that something is wrong please let me know...

Mine's pretty damn warm. The electric dial might be a little bit off. Or your heater core might be a little clogged. I would hope it's the former.

Mine roasts me out of the car after about 15 minutes. I've noticed that if its really freakin' cold outside.....like 15 degrees or colder, that my car doesn't get that warm....I think its because of my t-tops and the fact that they are not exactly air-tight. Don't know if you have t-tops or not.

I would try changing your thermostat. Did you buy the car new or used?? If it was used, the previous owner could have put a 160 or 180 thermorstat in there. If its still the stock thermostat it could be malfunctioning, which would effect the warmness of the heat in your car. It's a cheap and easy place to start.

All my LS1 cars have had great heaters. Granted, I don't drive them in the winter so they've never see the real cold weather, but in the late fall and early spring they've seen the occasional high 30 to low 40 degree temps at night and all it takes is having the fan on low speed with the heater on and a few minutes later I'm sweating.

The heater in ls1's is great IMO. (Not as good now that I have 160 deg thermostat)

If the heater isn't working well, I'd be checking the coolant to see if the Dexcool has turned to sludge (had the exact same problem with a 97 Blazer the Dexcool turned to sludge, and wouldn't flow thru the heater core)

ok guys...thanks for the help...i'll start out with checking the coolant and see what it looks like and take it from there...i'm new to the ls1tech website and i already love it...seems like as soon as you put up a post someone is there by the computer to answer you right back...thanks again for everyone's help

I meant the actual HVAC instrument cluster control below the radio. You can take that assembly apart and make sure that all the wires/etc are connected. I've seen other cars where the problem was that the heat instrument control wasn't turning properly. In my g/f's Accord, the heater adjustment would only work if you pushed in the dial hard, and it had gotten such that it was turned so much to the hot side that putting it on full cool was still a nice winter roast.

On my own car, the idiot dealers screwed it up on some warranty work, and I'd been living w/o a heater for a while now. I finally just got tired of putting up with it and finally got my heat working again. It's kinda jerry-rigged, but it works.

make sure that when you have the heat on that it's not set on max a/c make sure its set on they white looking arrow.
