Default OK HELP NEEDED!!!! my car just took a dump. NEED ADVICE PINPOINTING THE PROBLEM!!!

ok i dropped this girl off after church tonight and when i got to her house my car starts kinda smoking a little bit. its coming from the engine compartment. (at first i thought it was exhaust fumes beign blown by the wind) so i turn my car off and get out and look at the engine thinking it was maybe my serpentine belt or something that was burning up. but i don't see anything wrong. then when i'm leaving her house a check under my car and theres coolant everywhere. so i grab myself a flashlight and check the engine again and a red colored liquid is leaking from the front of my engine at a pretty good rate. so i'm thinking its my water pump. but my car was running fine all night long and wasn't running hot or anything. so my cars parked at the girls house right now. what do ya'll think it is water pump/ maybe a problem with my thermostat? help as quick i need to know something tonite. becasue im gonna go tom. with a couple of gallons of water and try to get my car to the shop. Do u think that would be ok? could i damage my engine doing this?

Check the heater hoses, coolan hoses, etc. It should be fine for you to drive it, just watch the temp guage like a hawk.

Is it running fine?

Your best bet would be to get a ride or a tow and check it out during the day, like Jammer said, clean it up and crank it up and see where its coming from. Don't risk hurting your car when you can wait and fix it proper.

Sounds like your waterpump is either leaking from the mounting gaskets(which they are known to do) or out the weep hole... Check all of your hoses & the recovery tank for cracks.... Waterpumps are weird, specially if they're leaking from the weep-hole, meaning somedays they leak & some theyt don't.. Usually when it's colder out they'll leak more when sitting for a period of time... I'd say top off your tank & then start your car, then inspect for leak while it's running.

Interestingly enough a friend's 300ZX waterpump was $33 from Advanced. I just did a quick search on it and found for a 99 TA they have one for 133 and 172, lol... quite the difference, huh? By the way, if you run it with a cooling problem...please, for the love of all that is good, check your temp gauge every two seconds. The above mentioned friend ruined that 300 because he didnt pay enough attention to the gauge: warped heads will ruin your day. Also keep in mind that the temp sensor is in one part of the circuit, if the flow drops, then one part of the engine may heat up significantly more than where the sensor is.

Shops raise the price of parts to make profit. If they're charging you $200 for the pump, it's costing them probably half that. I looked at Napa online and they sell a remanufactured pump for $114.80 plus a $27.78 core charge, or two new ones for $153 and $159. Save your money and get one and do it yourself if you think you can.
